Geography & Climate
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) is more commonly known as Hong Kong. The main districts are: Hong Kong Island, Lantau Island, Kowloon and the New Territories. Hong Kong is “Asia’s World City” and traveling throughout Asia, Oceania and Europe is incredibly convenient, thanks to Hong Kong’s accessible location. Hong Kong's climate is subtropical, yet seasonal. Spring is temperate with some rainfall and summers are hot, humid and rainy. Temperatures are lower in fall, when the weather becomes warm and sunny while winter is cooler and dry.
Population

Hong Kong's population is approximately 7 million people. Approximately 95% of Hong Kong's population is of Chinese descent, the majority being ethnic Cantonese. The remaining 5% of the population is composed of non-Cantonese Chinese, Indians, Pakistanis and Nepalese, Europeans, Americans, Australians, Canadians, Japanese, and Koreans. Approximately 140,000 Filipinos work in Hong Kong as foreign domestic helpers together with Indonesians and Sri Lankans.
Cantonese is Hong Kong's official language, but English, Hong Kong's second official language, is widely spoken throughout the city. Signs displaying both Chinese and English are common throughout Hong Kong.

Shopping and Eating
Hong Kong is often described as a place where East meets West with a mix of traditional Chinese shops and mega malls with Western stores. You'll quickly find that in Hong Kong, if you want to buy anything, you'll be able to find it here! Shopping is a favorite past time in Hong Kong and can be done everywhere from train stations to malls, night markets to an endless additional variety of other types of stores. Small Cantonese style quick-eat restaurants and American sit down restaurants are interspersed throughout the city. While different varieties of Chinese selections are easiest to find and the least expensive, there are also many European, American, Japanese, Korean food choices, just to name a few. Many malls and eateries open until late each day of the week with the local public transport network and systems also operating along similar hours, so avid shoppers can enjoy the sights and sounds of Hong Kong!
Sights to See
Hong Kong has plenty of sights to see! Lan Kwai Fong, Tsim Sha Tsui and Wan Chai are all popular destinations, packed with both tourists and locals. And, on a clear day, the Peak provides a great view of the Hong Kong city skyline. The Hong Kong government also supports the arts and promotes cultural heritage with the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, Hong Kong Museum of Art and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, just to name a select few.
Transportation

Transportation is safe, clean, efficient and easy to manage in Hong Kong. The Octopus card can be used to pay for fares on almost all railways, buses and ferries. Hong Kong has several different types of public transportation. The main train line in the city is the MTR. The tramway system covers the northern parts of Hong Kong Island. Five bus companies provide bus services throughout the city. Taxis are also widely used throughout Hong Kong and are another affordable way to travel. Ferry services operate between Kowloon, Hong Kong Island and outlying islands. The oldest ferry service, the Star Ferry, operates between Kowloon and Hong Kong Island.
